Photoshop Tip #15 - Large image transition effect
for the webThis tip is to be used if you have a very large image to display. First, a quick black and white image is shown, and then the color image is filled in on top of the b&w image. It is a cool effect, but can only be seen with large images. Smaller images are to quick for the transition.

 Start with a large color photograph (this is not large, just in case you
were wondering). Save it as a jpg file. |

 Duplicate the image and convert it to grayscale (MODE/GRAYSCALE/OK). Then
convert it to a bitmap (MODE/BITMAP) with "Diffusion Dither" checked and 75 dpi
(screen). Convert it back to grayscale and save it as a gif. To make the transition, type
the following in your HTML page: <IMG LOWSRC="b&w.gif" SRC="big.jpg">. When you upload this page and view it, you will notice
the b&w image load first, and them the color jpg on top of it. It's a pretty cool
effect. |

This section is just for a cool
effect. It's not part of the tip. Go to
your color image and select all and copy. Go back to the b&w image and convert it back
to grayscale (MODE/GRAYSCALE). With the magic wand tool |
select
the a black area (it could also be the white area) and SELECT/SIMiLAR. Hide the selection
(CTRL+H) and convert it back to an RGB image (MODE/RGB). Now select EDIT/PASTE INTO and
the color will fill in the black area producing a cool effect. To make the file size
smaller, convert it to an index color image of 3 or 4 bits.
