If you are going to make a web site it's a good idea to get an HTML editor. These programs make it easier to put your site together and save time doing it. Editor are split into 2 types: WYSIWYG editors & HTML code editors.
1) If you are just starting out it is be a good idea to get a WYSIWYG editor. These are made so that you can just type your text, drag in images and your done. You don't have as much control over the final look of your site and its difficult to do advanced HTML programming, but they are a good place to start. Unfortunately, if you are planning to do this a lot, you are going to have to learn the raw HTML code and what the tags mean. Examples of these type of programs are MS Frontpage & Netscape Gold.
2) If you are more of a technical person or already know HTML, it's best to get a raw HTML code editor. These editors let you have more control over what you are doing, because you can edit the raw HTML code. Many of these even let you view what the site will look like within the program. This is the type that I prefer, because I learned HTML before these editors came out and I'm faster at just editing the code. Examples of these type of editors are HomeSite & HoT MetaL Pro.
You can get a good HTML editor anywhere (freeware, shareware and purchase ware). I can't really recommend one, because they are all so different and each one has different features. You just have to try them out and see which one that you like best.
I found the best way to learn HTML is to just cruise the net for cool ideas. If you see a page that is doing something that you would like done on your page. Go to the VIEW menu in your browser and view the SOURCE code. Study the code carefully and copy it to your page. After a bit of altering and re-typing, you should be able to have the same effect on your own page.
